| Dear Friend of Terraset,
Are you ready for Back-to-School Night tomorrow? Here are a couple of things you might want to plan for:
|
|
Muscle to the Garden!
We need your help
We are still looking for some strong
people to help move mulch from the side of the school up to the
Butterfly Garden. Please contact Faye Codding if you can help.
And if you are interested in working in the school gardens please sign up here for Thursday in the Garden -- a great opportunity to exercise, socialize, and beautify the school's landscape.

Vision and Hearing Screening
Volunteers Needed
Each year Terraset tests the vision
and hearing of a number of students. This year 150-160 students will be
tested and the Health Room Aide needs help!
The school needs 10 volunteers to
help screen kindergartners' and 3rd grader's vision and hearing on
Wednesday, October 7th between 9:15am - 1pm.
The Health Room Aide, Gladelle
Hardenbergh, will work with six volunteers to do vision tests. The
Public Health Nurse, Mary Joan Shea, will work with two volunteers to
do hearing screening. The testing will be undertaken on the stage and
in the conference room, so other volunteers will help to keep the
children settled and quiet.

The Gift Wrap Sale is Back
And the kids are asking you to hit the streets with them!
Did your kids come home on Thursday all excited about the Innisbrook gift wrap sale? Are you thinking "not again!"?
We know... most of you cringe when
yet another fundraising effort comes home in the Tuesday Packet. Many
of you ask "Why can't I just give you $50?"
The trouble is, to raise $10,000 --
200 of you need to give the school $50 and it just doesn't happen.
There are only 300 families in the school, and not all are in a
position to make that sort of donation. So, we need to reach out to the
wider community. And the wider community wants something in return.
Therfore, we work hard to motivate your kids to work hard. Yes... it is
uncomfortable... for everyone, but there are great lessons to be
learned about: helping others; the rewards that come from working hard;
and the fun of joining in!
Ok -- that's out in the open! So
what was it that got the kids so excited? At the Innisbrook Assembly
they learned about the prizes that Innisbrook provides at various
levels of sales, ranging from downloadable games to safari flashlights,
Boom-a-Rangs, a Mini Safe, through to a six-piece game room set. In
addition, enter your order online, and you could win a Mercedes Smart
Car.
But these prizes can be hard to achieve, so the PTA supplements them with rewards for kids and families who simply participate!
- Parents, bring in
a slip of paper (coming home in 9/22 Tuesday packets) to Back-to-School
Night, tomorrow, listing your favorite paper and page number from the
Innisbrook catalog. We'll pull a name from the entries to win a
Starbucks card
- Sell 10 items -
children are entered in a drawing for a choice of a Webkinz, an iTunes
gift card or two passes to Woody's "Peril's of the Lost Jungle"
miniature golf.
- Top selling Class wins an ice cream sundae party
- Top three selling classes compete in pig races. Winning classes' pig earns every student in the class one free ice cream or soft pretzel at lunch
- Guess the a) total number of
animals, b) the spots on all the giraffes necks or c) the number of
petals on all of the flowers on one 18 x 2 foot roll of Jungle Fever
gift wrap (displayed in school). The three students who are the
closest to the actual number get free ice cream or a soft pretzel at
lunch
- Spot the coconut tree
every day during the sale. We'll hide the 4 inch coconut tree in
a different place in the school everyday, starting Monday 9/21.
Children write down the location and we'll pull three lucky
winners on WTER on Friday 9/25 and 10/2 for a free ice cream or soft
pretzel at lunch.
- Sell 30 items and get in the Innisbrook prize machine
- Sell 40 items and
get to battle it out with Assistant Principal Carter with a couple of
cans of Silly String during lunch after the Innisbrook sale is
over. Date TBD.
Yes.. it is time consuming,
inconvenient, and at times difficult. But $10,000 is a huge
amount for our kids, families, and school!

Shop at Whole Foods on Wednesday
5% Goes Back to Terraset
Whole Foods Market is currently promoting a program called the School Lunch Revolution,
led by chef Ann Cooper, with the goal of ensuring that every child in
America receives healthy and delicious food at school every day. Her
new website, powered by donations around the country, will help schools
make simple but revolutionary changes to their lunch programs.
On Wednesday,
September 23rd (next Wednesday) volunteers from Terraset, and other
elementary schools, will be manning a small booth and talking to
customers about the School Lunch Revolution. In return, Whole Foods
Market will divide 5% of their net sales for the day equally between
the participating schools. A ballpark average for one of there 5% Days
runs to $3000.
So, shop at Whole Foods on Wednesday and know that some of the proceeds will come back to Terraset!
