| Dear Friend of Terraset,
As always, Terraset is full of
activity! Those who made it to Bingo will be happy to know you
contributed to a very successful night. You raised nearly $1300 for the
school and that will help to pay for after school program scholarships,
cameras, stereos, and playground equipment. Thank you so much! In our
next issue of TouchPoint we will give you a full report on how we have
been able to help our teachers -- and your kids -- so far this
year.
Speaking of activity, don't
miss what is going on this week! Read on...

Terraset at Barnes & Noble!
The teachers share
their talents.
It was good to see so many
families at the Barnes & Noble Voucher Book Sale on Monday
night. The kids got to play some great games and hear some wonderful
stories. Thanks to Mrs. Stanmyre for organizing this fun event. Thanks
also to all the teachers who read and helped the kids to solve
puzzles and choose books.
If you were not able to get
there on Monday, you can still take advantage of the voucher sale
either online or in-store through March 3rd -- just qote this number at
checkout:
and Terraset will receive a
percentage of your purchase.

Dr. Seuss' Birthday!
Oh, The Places You'll Go!
Terraset will celebrate Dr.
Seuss Day on Friday March 5th, and many
of the teachers have special activities planned.
The kids have been invited to
dress up as a Dr Seuss character, so, it should be a fun day at
Terraset on Friday!

Keep Lobbying For Our Schools!
You can still speak up!
Do three things in three days!
Fairfax County officials will
set the maximum advertised property tax rate on March 9. Once set, this
cannot be increased. Many school programs and county services could be
cut if the rate does not account for major uncertainties in state
funding which is known too late on March 13.
- Keep
your message short, simple and courteous.
- Your message:
Safeguard the county and its ability to preserve our world-class
schools and essential services. Generate enough revenue by ensuring
maximum flexibility in the advertised tax rate -- set it at $1.12 or
higher (8-cent increase or higher) and approve the vehicle registration
license fee to account for critical uncertainties in state funding. (Check
out talking points and sample letters on FLAGS website
for support arguments.)
- Be sure to thank
officials for their service and time on this critical issue to our
county.
McDonnell
is proposing $730 million in K-12 state education funding. The state
also is considering giving localities meals tax authority which would
help generate and diversify revenue streams. Address these issues
separately in your advocacy communications before March 13 when the
state session ends.
- Keep your messages short,
simple and courteous.
- Your first message: Oppose
proposed cuts to K-12 education to ensure the opportunity of a
world-class education so Virginians will be competitive in this global
economy.(Check out talking points for support
arguments.)
- In a separate
message: Support
decision for localities to authorize a meals tax, if they choose, to
generate and diversify their revenue stream especially during difficult
budget times. (Check out talking points for support
arguments.)
- Be sure to thank
officials for their service and time on this critical issue to our
state.
3. Sign
up
to speak at County Board of Supervisors Public Hearings April 6, 7
& 8 (April
6 is already closed.)
Numbers
matter and we need speakers in support of education funding to be in
full force at the hearings. Speaking slots are limited so sign
up online
or by calling 703-324-3151
today!
Also,
be sure to share this email with every concerned Fairfax County
resident you know and mark your calendars for these upcoming events:
- Attend upcoming
meetings with county
supervisors to voice concerns.
- March 22: Testimony
Writing Workshop & Rally Prep from 7-9 p.m. at FCPS Gatehouse
Cafe. More details to come.
- April 6: Unified FCPS
rally to preserve world-class schools starting at 4:30 p.m. at the
County Government Center. This is the first day of public hearings - we
need a MAJOR turnout! More details to come.

PTA Yoga
Fundraiser
Enjoyed by all...
Our first
Yoga Fundraiser was held last Saturday. The participants had a
great time and the PTA enjoyed a nice boost to its funraising efforts.
Thank you
so much to Maryam Ovissi for organizing the event. Could you offer
another? We have heard roumor of a breathing and meditation
session next? That is certainly something we could all benefit from.
