What's Your Opinion?

The Terraset PTA is an organization of parents, teachers and staff working together to enhance the educational experience of the students at Terraset ES. The PTA wants to meet the needs of it's community. Therefore, we are asking for your opinion.

Below is a link to a survey. It has only four questions and will take no more than two minutes to complete.  By responding, you will help to focus the Terraset PTA's direction for the 2010-2011 school year, providing guidance in setting goals, the PTA budget and activities for students and parents.

Dear Friend of Terraset,

Last week saw the beginning of the end-of-year class parties in the school and a lot of fun was had by all. It also brought the sad news that Ms. Carter's mother died unexpectedly. We extend our condolences to Ms. Carter, Terraset's Assistant Principal, and her family who have been great supporters of the school and its PTA since they joined the community just two years ago. You will find details of the funeral arrangements below.

In the midst of these events, Field Day has arrived! Thanks in advance to all those who volunteered to help. Hope you and the kids have a great time. Don't forget your water bottles!

Of course, there is plenty going on at the school with the Scholastic Book Fair starting today and running through tomorrow evening. This is a good opportunity to gather your summer reading. The language Arts and Social Studies Night is set for Tuesday evening. Try to get there to see the product of your children's hard work in these study areas AND get your copy of Tiger Tales hot off the press.

The sixth grade end of year party is scheduled for this week too! The kids and their parents have been planning for a number of weeks now, so let's hope everyone has a great time.

The PTA Board has started to plan for next year. We would appreciate your help. Above, you will have seen a link to a survey. It will only take two minutes for you to finish, so could you complete it now and not put it off until later? That would be a great help.

This will probably be our last communication before the end of the school year. So, enjoy your summer and keep in touch with your friends!

Math Superstars Celebrate
Outback Opens Its Doors Again!

Outback in Herndon, Terraset's major Business partner, again congratulated about 65 of Terraset's Math Superstars by hosting a lunch for them last Thursday!

The kids worked hard all year to complete the 25 Math Superstars worksheets, earning themselves a T-shirt in addition to an invitation to lunch!

Of course, the kids were not the only ones working hard. A team of PTA volunteers, coordinated by Marina Tignor, worked as graders throughout the year earning themselves a big vote of thanks for their efforts.

The students who earned the highest number of stars at each grade level were:

2010 Math Superstars T-Shirt
Terraset Math Superstars T-Shirt
Gr. 1  - Logan Minto
Gr. 2 - Emma Grossback
Gr. 3 - Klara Goldman
Gr. 4 - Shirin Yavari
Gr. 5 - Anna Tignor
Gr. 6 - Joyce Phelps

Congratulations to all our Math Superstars! At least 90 students participated in the program this year... that's over 20% of our kids.

Well Done!

Teachers vs Sixth Grade!
Kick-ball Tradition Continues

We are not too sure of the final score, but we know the Teachers continued their winning streak at the annual Teachers vs Sixth Grade kick-ball game on Friday.

The teachers fielded a strong team with standout plays by Mr. Grumbach making at least two catches, Mr. Patterson covering the whole field, Mrs. Forman managing to run the bases even though she forgot her running shoes, and Mrs. Kimberly Mathews demonstrating very consistent bowling (or is it called pitching) skills throughout the game.

It looked like there were hundreds of sixth graders as they buzzed around the field at the end of each inning. Considering most of their opponents were twice their size (except for Miss McGrane) they did a great job to keep the teachers at only four runs!
Ms. Carter, Our Thoughts Are With You.
May your memories give you strength.

Requirement:

Do You Have a Student Entering Sixth Grade Next Year?
If yes, he or she may need a booster dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis). Sixth grade students cannot begin school in the fall without documentation of having had either the Tdap booster OR documentation of having had a tetanus-containing vaccine within the last five years. Parents and guardians of current fifth graders should check their child's immunization records.
