 With
just over three weeks to go before school resumes, Terraset PTA has
started its work. One of the first things we need to do is get our
mailing list up to date, so if you know anyone who will be joining the
school this year, please forward this email to them and suggest they subscribe to this newsletter.
Of course, you may no longer have a direct
association with the school and prefer not to receive TouchPoint any
longer. See the link at the bottom of this newsletter to unsubscribe.
All we need you to do at the moment is
update your calendar! Note the change to the school schedule, enter the
dates for orientation, open house, back to school night, and of course
the general PTA meeting... they are all listed below. You will also be
interested in reading about some of the new programs and approaches the
PTA will be taking this year.
As always, we would love to hear from you, so email us or post a comment on our new Terraset PTA Blog -- we would love to know your thoughts.
If there is information that you would like to see included in this publication, please send us your thoughts.

| New From the PTA this Year |
|
We want to take this opportunity to
highlight some of the new projects and approaches you can expect
to see from the PTA this year.

- We hope your kids have been thinking about the Reflections Program- artworks will be reviewed early in the school year, so make sure you are ready to join in
- Nature Club is back with a special program. Trout in the Classroom an
environmental program that aims to connect kids with their watersheds.
Since we have one in our backyard, that seems like a great thing to do!
- We have established a Terraset PTA Clubs Blog to
provide a platform for kids participating in our clubs to share their
ideas and experiences. The blog can be accessed directly, or via our
website from the Sponsored Programs page
- We have a new position this year, Volunteer Coordinator.
Heather Thomas has agreed to accept the role which aims to assist
in finding volunteers, from both in and outside the school, for:
tutoring programs; volunteer needs within the school, and the
identification of external resources that may benefit the school

will locate and negotiate with a spirit wear provider, promote spirit
wear availability to the school, coordinate the collection of payments,
and arrange for the distribution of goods.
- Grants Committee Chair -- this
person will direct the grants committee to research potential
sources of funds, act as liaison with Mrs Cury to select suitable
grant opportunities, and support faculty and staff in subsequent grant
application submissions.

volunteer and to help organize these important PTA activities, please
contact Stephanie Randall, Stephanie.Randall@verizon.net or phone 703.716.1055. We need you!

| Call for GRACE Art Docents... |
GRACE Art is
one of the most popular volunteer opportunities at Terraset. Each
month a volunteer docent presents an aspect of art or an artist to a
class and then helps the students to complete an art project based on
the presentation.
If you have a couple of hours each month
to volunteer and would enjoy presenting an art project to your child's
class, please express your interest via email to Alison Stobie
Existing docents are also asked to email Alison to confirm their continued interest in the program.

This summer Terraset Elementary invited you to "Catch your Child Reading!" Have you sent in a photo yet?
Bettina Forman, the reading specialist at
Terraset, is collecting photos of Terraset kids reading anywhere,
anytime! You should add a caption that includes your child's name,
and if you like, the reading location and book, magazine, or other text
he or she is reading. A summer reading photo wall will be ready to
greet our Terraaset readers when they go back to school in
September.
Other family members and Terraset staff are welcome to participate too! Send the photos by email to TerrasetReads@gmail.com or U.S. mail to "Caught Reading" c/o Terraset Elementary 11411 Ridge Heights Road, Reston, Va 20191.
